How-to · the 60-day rule, quoted from FMCSA

Your ELD was removed and you have 60 days to replace it

FMCSA gives carriers up to 60 days, paper logs meanwhile, and then the driver is out of service. Here is every 2026 deadline on one line, and the registered devices that publish a price.

The rule in one sentence, from FMCSA

"Motor carriers have up to 60 days to replace the revoked ELDs with a compliant ELD." FMCSA gives motor carriers up to 60 days to replace a revoked ELD with one on the Registered ELDs list; for the five devices revoked on 6 August 2026 that deadline was 6 October 2026 (FMCSA: "Replace the revoked ELDs with a compliant ELD from the Registered ELDs list before October 6, 2026").

Until the replacement is in, FMCSA says to stop using the revoked device and revert to paper logs or logging software. After the deadline, drivers are cited under 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1) and placed out of service.

Each row is one FMCSA removal date, from FMCSA's revoked list. Where FMCSA's news page published the out-of-service date, the end marker is FMCSA's date; elsewhere it is the removal date plus 60 days, labelled as ours. The window is two calendar months in every FMCSA notice we read, so it runs 60 or 61 days.

Check the device first, not the brand

The replacement clock starts only if your exact device left the list. Read the ELD Identifier, model number and device name from the unit, then search them on the registered-list check or our copy of the registered list. If the device is there and the company matches the one you pay, nothing on this page applies to you yet.

If it is not there, find it on the removal record and write down the date. That date, or the date FMCSA prints in its notice, is your day zero.

Registered replacement ELDs that publish a price

Three registered vendors printed a per-truck price on their own pages. Register columns come from FMCSA's list retrieved 2026-10-19; prices from each vendor's page on the date shown.

Azuga is listed with care: it publishes plan prices, it has 8 devices on the registered list today, and it also withdrew 20 of its own devices on 18 May 2026. A self-revocation is the vendor retiring a product, not an FMCSA finding, but it is the kind of event this page exists for, so check the identifier of any Azuga unit you are offered. For year-one cost at one truck, see ELDs for owner-operators, which draws it to scale.

Registered replacement ELDs that quote instead

Six registered vendors publish no price. That does not make them worse replacements; it means the price arrives on a call, so put the deadline on the call too.

What not to do when replacing a removed ELD

  • Do not buy the same box under a new name without checking. Many registered brands share hardware; our white-label count shows how a replacement can be the unit you just lost.
  • Do not wait for a relisting. FMCSA says a device can return if its provider fixes the deficiencies, and in the same notice strongly encourages carriers to act now.
  • Do not cancel the old account before exporting logs. Your records stay your obligation after the vendor leaves the list.
  • Do not rely on the brand. Match identifier, model and company, then compare vendors on the register record.
If you need a published price todayStart with Blue Ink Tech or Lucid ELD

Both printed a per-truck price on 19 October 2026 and both have devices on the registered list with no FMCSA revocation.

If you run several trucksGet Samsara or Motive on a call

Both quote by fleet size and neither has a removal on record under its company name. Put your deadline in the first sentence.

If cash is tight before the deadlinePrice the 12-month plans

Blue Ink Tech includes the ELD in a $400 annual plan and Lucid makes hardware free on a 12-month term, which moves the cost off day zero.

If your vendor has nothing listedTreat it as a full switch

No newer device from the same company exists to move to. Export logs first, then choose from the tables above.

Questions

How long do I have to replace a revoked ELD?
FMCSA's notices say motor carriers have up to 60 days to replace a revoked ELD with a compliant one from the registered list. For the five devices FMCSA removed on 6 August 2026 the stated deadline was 6 October 2026.
What do I use while I replace it?
FMCSA tells carriers to discontinue the revoked device and revert to paper logs or logging software to record hours of service until the replacement is in.
What happens after the 60 days?
FMCSA says drivers still using the revoked device, or improperly using paper logs, are cited under 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1) for no record of duty status and placed out of service under the CVSA Out-of-Service Criteria.
Can a revoked ELD come back onto the list?
Yes. FMCSA says it will place devices back on the registered list if the provider corrects all identified deficiencies, and it also strongly encourages carriers to act now rather than wait for that.
Which replacement ELDs publish a price?
Of the registered vendors on this page, Blue Ink Tech, Lucid ELD and TruckX published a per-truck price; Motive, Samsara, Geotab, BigRoad, Ezlogz and ELD Mandate did not. Azuga published fleet plan prices without stating whether ELD logging is included. Read 19 October 2026.

Sources and method

Prices and statements were read from each vendor's own page on 19 October 2026 and are quoted as published; where a vendor publishes no price we say so, and where a vendor's page did not serve a figure to our reader that day we print the last date we could read it. Register status is read from FMCSA's registered and revoked ELD lists, retrieved 19 October 2026, and recomputed every time this page is built. We did not buy, install or run any of these devices or services for this page. Compiled and verified by Vincent Wesley Couey.
