FMCSA has revoked 56 ELDs in 2026, more than in any year

Revocations FMCSA initiated have risen four years running, from 16 in 2023 to 56 this year across 38 companies, and in 2026 they outnumber the devices vendors withdrew themselves.

The short answer

FMCSA revoked 56 ELDs between 1 January and 28 September 2026, the most of any year on its revoked list (37 in 2025, 21 in 2024, 16 in 2023). In 2026, 56 of 102 removals were FMCSA revocations; in 2023 it was 16 of 101.

The total number of removals also edged past its old high, 102 against 101 in 2023, but that margin is one device and 20 of this year's removals are a single vendor withdrawing its own devices. The enforcement count is the record that holds.

Two years running, FMCSA initiated most ELD removals

FMCSA-initiated revocations were 16% of removals in 2023, 41% in 2024, 55% in 2025 and 55% in 2026. Before 2022 the list records no FMCSA revocations at all: every earlier removal is a vendor withdrawing a device.

That reverses what our own removal record says about the whole history, where vendor withdrawals still outnumber revocations. Across all 387 removals the vendors lead; inside 2026 the agency does.

Why the record for total ELD removals is weaker than it looks

Total removals in 2026 stand at 102, one more than the 101 of 2023. A one-device margin is not a trend. 20 of this year's removals are Azuga, Inc. withdrawing its own Hours of Service devices on 18 May 2026, a vendor decision rather than enforcement, and 2023's total also leans on one vendor event: GPS Trackit withdrew 15 devices on 2 February 2023.

Take the largest vendor batch out of each year and the totals stop being a record. Take it out and the FMCSA count does not move at all, because vendor withdrawals are not in it. That is why this page leads on 56, not 102. Azuga, Inc. also still lists devices on the registered list today; its withdrawal is a product change, and our fleet comparison prints its current prices.

29 of the 38 have nothing left on the registered list. For their customers there is no newer device from the same vendor to move to, which is the situation our page on companies with no registered device left counts across the whole record.

What the FMCSA revoked list does not show

  • No reason per device. FMCSA's notices give one general ground, failure to meet the minimum requirements of Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395. The list has no reason column.
  • Dates are FMCSA's. We print the date in the list's Date column, normalised to ISO. 4 rows carry no parseable date and are left out of every yearly count.
  • Exact duplicates pass through. FMCSA's list repeats some rows exactly; we count what FMCSA publishes rather than deduplicating its record for it.
  • No judgement of any company. A revocation is a fact about a filing. Several companies here may correct their deficiencies and return to the list.

If a device you run is on the list: the 60-day clock

FMCSA's notices say it plainly: "Motor carriers have up to 60 days to replace the revoked ELDs with a compliant ELD." After the deadline, drivers using the device are cited under 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1) for no record of duty status and placed out of service. Start with the device itself on the registered-list check, then follow the replacement path, which draws every 2026 deadline on one timeline.

If you run one truckCheck the identifier, not the brand

A brand can stay listed while your device is revoked. Match the ELD Identifier, model and company on the registered list.

If you manage a fleetAudit every unit against the list

FMCSA revoked in 9 batches this year. One identifier check per unit type, repeated after each batch, is the whole audit.

If you sell ELDsConfirm your filings are current

Registered devices are the replacement market every batch creates. The registered list is what carriers check.

What the replacement vendors publish, dated

  • Motive. On 19 October 2026 the Motive pricing address redirected to a get-in-touch form and showed no price. Source, read 2026-10-19.
  • Samsara. On 19 October 2026 the Samsara pricing page opened with a fleet-size question, starting at 1 to 5 vehicles, instead of a price. Source, read 2026-10-19.
  • BigRoad. BigRoad publishes no ELD price: its pricing page asks buyers to call for the most accurate pricing. Source, read 2026-10-19.
  • Azuga. Azuga publishes three fleet plans at 25, 30 and 35 dollars per vehicle per month, and its pricing page does not say whether ELD logging is included in them. Source, read 2026-10-19.
  • Omnitracs. On 19 October 2026 the Omnitracs pricing address returned a 404, so no published price was found. Source, read 2026-10-19.
  • TruckX. TruckX listed its ELD One device at 139 dollars plus 27 dollars a month paid yearly when its store was last readable to us on 14 October 2026. Source, read 2026-10-14.

Questions

How many ELDs has FMCSA revoked in 2026?
56 devices across 38 companies between 1 January and 28 September 2026, counted from FMCSA's revoked ELD list retrieved 19 October 2026. The previous high was 37, in 2025.
Is 2026 a record year for ELD removals overall?
Narrowly. All removals in 2026 total 102 against 101 in 2023, and 20 of the 2026 removals are one vendor withdrawing its own devices on one day (Azuga, Inc., 18 May 2026). The record that holds without that batch is FMCSA-initiated revocations.
Why was my ELD revoked?
FMCSA's removal notices say the devices were removed for the companies' failure to meet the minimum requirements in Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395. The revoked list itself carries no reason code per device, so this page cannot tell you more about any one device than FMCSA has published.
What do I do if my ELD is on the 2026 revoked list?
FMCSA gives motor carriers up to 60 days to replace a revoked ELD with one from the registered list, with paper logs or logging software meanwhile. Every 2026 FMCSA batch had passed that window by 19 October 2026. The replacement steps and registered alternatives are on our replacement guide.
Is a self-revoked ELD treated differently from an FMCSA-revoked one?
For the vendor it is a different event: a self-revocation is the company withdrawing its own device. For the carrier running it, the device is off the registered list either way, so check the device itself rather than the reason it left.

Sources and method

Counted on 19 October 2026 from FMCSA's revoked ELD list (387 removals; 4 without a parseable date are excluded). "FMCSA revoked" and "self revoked" are FMCSA's own status labels. Counts are computed at build from eld-changes.json, so this page and the list cannot disagree. Company grouping in the table uses FMCSA's own company string; "still listed" uses a normalised name. We did not buy, install or run any device for this page. Compiled and verified by Vincent Wesley Couey.
